My first memories of lanterns and stoves were camping with my Dad and brother with a '56 red Coleman lantern and a 6-J Canadian Coleman 2-burner stove. Later in college we used Colemans on biology field trips when we went camping and later for caving. They aren't very practical for exploration but they were great for finding small animals in the caves. My advisor pooh-poohed our red Colemans as he had one of the older nickel-plated models that he claimed was superior. As a college biology teacher we used Coleman lanterns and stoves on camping field trips with students and when we were out doing field research.

Over the past 30+ years I found lanterns at antique shows and owned several by early 2000. A Coleman Model 530 Pocket Stove that I found in the spring, 2000 was completely new to me. It "sent me over the edge" and I had to know more about these older lanterns and stoves. I learned there were gas pressure irons and lamps as well and that these items were made by a number of manufacturers. The collection has grown exponentially since then and now includes over 200 gas pressure devices made by over 40 manufacturers from around the world. Please visit my web site to see more of my collection as well as items from the collections of others. Items from other ICCC members are included on the web site.
